UGC PG Scholarships for SC & ST Students
The University Grants Commission(UGC) is inviting applications for the award of Scholarships for the year 2008-09 under the scheme of PG Scholarships for Professional courses for SC and ST candidates.
The scheme has been initiated keeping in view the social background of the candidates from the studies in Professional subjects like Engineering and Technology, Management, Pharmacy etc. in Indian Universities/ Institutions/ Colleges.
The objective of this scheme is to provide financial assistance to 1000 SC/ST candidates to purse postgraduate level studies in Professional subjects at recognised Indian Universities/ Institutions/ Colleges.
The candidate must have obtained graduate degree in the relevant subject and obtained admission at Postgraduate level for regular full time course in any of the Professional subject in a recognised University/ Institution/ College.
Candidates pursuing PG course in Professional subjects by correspondence or by Distance Education mode are not eligible to receive financial assistance under this scheme.
The upper age limit for male applicant is 45 years as on 1st July on the year of application and 50 years in the case of female candidates.
In exceptional cases, the age may be relaxed.
The tenure of award is for two or three years depending upon tenure of the Postgraduate course.
Under the scheme For M.Tech courses, selected candidates will get Rs.5, 000 per month apart from contingency of Rs.15, 000 per annum other courses they will get Rs.3, 000 per month and contingency of Rs.10, 000 per annum.
The last date of receipt of the applications of the scholarship for the year 2008-09 is September 1, 2008 and the selection will be made with the help of an expert committee constituted by the commission. The decision of the commission in this regard will be final. Direct and incomplete applications will not be entertained. For further details visit www.ugc.ac.in

My teacher inform me about this scholarship on September 1, 2008 itself. I am really in need of this scholarships, I belong to a BPL family of Meghalaya. I’m persuing MCA course in St Anthony’s college. Though i cleared the first instalment somehow, i am worried about the future fees. Please suggest me what should I do as the last date for submitting the form is already over. Please extends the date, I am begging you.

Hi everyone.
I have been selected for sc/st pg scholarships for the year 2008-2010, the problem is that I’ve failed in one subject in my third semester of my M.E course, which means detainment for one year, I’ve applied for challenge revaluation I dont know whether it will be cleared or not.
I want to know that whether if a student takes more than two years to complete his/her M.E degree , whether the scholarship allotted for him/her will be cancelled or is there any chance of getting the scholarships if result is positive in revaluation which means that he/she will be completing the degree in two years itself.
or I have to forget about this scholarship.
