DU colleges ensure students won’t be ragged by seniors

NEW DELHI: As the new session of Delhi University begins from July 21, colleges are ensuring that newcomers need not worry about being ragged by seniors. Colleges are taking a host of anti-ragging measures, from deploying flying squads to putting up complaint boxes, to prevent harassment of freshers. Principals also insist they have been successful in curbing the menace in DU colleges to a large extent.

They say no serious incident of ragging has been reported from any college over last two-three years, though they will take all possible steps to make sure the seniors behave. DU proctor, professor Gurmeet Singh, said, “There hasn’t been any ragging incident in colleges over the last few years. Unlike in some other states, students in Delhi have probably become more sensitive about the issue due to increased awareness.”
